Microlight Flight Over Victoria Falls

No doors, no windows, no windscreen — just you, a pilot and an open-air ultralight aircraft banking low over the full curtain of Victoria Falls and the Batoka Gorge. It’s the closest, most unfiltered aerial view of the Falls available, launched from the Zambia side near Livingstone.

Aerial view of Victoria Falls, seen from a microlight flight

Overview

Trip Overview

The microlight flight departs from an airfield on the Zambia side, near Livingstone, and gives easily the most exposed aerial view of Victoria Falls available — you sit behind the pilot in an open-frame ultralight aircraft with nothing between you and the view. For photographers and thrill-seekers alike, it’s a genuinely different experience from an enclosed helicopter cabin.

Two flight lengths are available: a 12–15 minute flight covering the Falls and the Batoka Gorge directly, or a 25 minute flight that extends further along the Zambezi for a longer look at the river and surrounding landscape.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

The microlight is open-air with no doors or windows, giving an unobstructed view and a stronger sense of flight — the helicopter is enclosed and generally considered more comfortable. Both fly over the Falls, but the microlight departs from the Zambia side.
Yes — flights are conducted by licensed pilots on registered aircraft, with a safety briefing and secured harness before takeoff.
The longer 25-minute flight gives more time over the Falls and surrounding river scenery for photographers, though the shorter flight still captures the full curtain of the Falls and the gorge system.
