Below Victoria Falls, the Zambezi funnels into the Batoka Gorge and turns into one of the world’s great commercially rafted rivers — grade 3 to grade 5 rapids, sheer basalt walls on either side, and a professional guide steering every stroke.

Overview
The Zambezi River drops through Victoria Falls and immediately narrows into the Batoka Gorge, a steep-walled basalt canyon that concentrates the river into one continuous rapid after another. It’s regularly rated among the best one-day commercial rafting stretches anywhere, and it’s all within a short drive of Victoria Falls town.
This isn’t a gentle float — it’s a genuine white water trip, with named rapids graded 3 to 5 depending on the river's level at the time of year. No experience is required; professional river guides paddle in the raft with you, read the water, and call every command.
What To Expect
Meet your guides at the top of the Batoka Gorge, gear up with helmet, life jacket and paddle, and hike down to the put-in point on the Zambezi — roughly 30–45 minutes on a steep but manageable trail.
Paddle a stretch of grade 3–5 rapids through the gorge, guided by a professional river guide who reads the water and calls every command — with flatter sections in between to catch your breath and take in the scenery.
Hike back up out of the gorge, towel off, and transfer back to your Victoria Falls accommodation — tired, soaked, and usually grinning.
